Homework House

Homework House, formally known as Straight A Coaching at the Homework House, is an academic tutoring and coaching center located at 7 State Street in the Village of Pittsford, NY. Founded in 2009 by Ardis Mangione-Lindley — a certified teacher with 20 years of classroom experience, including 15 years at Brighton High School — the business opened its Pittsford location in January 2016 as the area's first dedicated "Homework House" facility. A second location operates at 2082 Five Mile Line Road in Penfield.

The center serves students from elementary school through high school graduation, employing a staff of more than 50 tutors. Every instructor holds a master's degree or Ph.D. and carries active classroom teaching certification.

Homework House provides several distinct services:

• One-on-one tutoring covering AP and Regents-level coursework, Common Core skills, SAT and ACT test preparation, and college essay writing
• Academic coaching focused on executive functioning, study skills, organization, and time management — designed for students who need structural support rather than subject-specific instruction
• Homework Pods — monthly memberships available for one, two, or three days per week, with the facility open from 2:45 PM to 8:45 PM and staffed by teachers in math, science, humanities, and foreign languages

Students are paired with the same teacher for every session, and scheduling is arranged around individual student availability. Summer AP preparation courses are also offered.

Homework House is built around a consistent-tutor model where each student works with the same credentialed teacher throughout their enrollment. The pod program — an after-school drop-in concept staffed across four subject areas — distinguishes the center from traditional one-session-at-a-time tutoring services. With a roster of 50-plus certified educators and both one-on-one and pod formats available, the operation bridges the gap between private tutoring and structured academic support.

The Pittsford location sits at 7 State Street in the heart of the Village of Pittsford, steps from the Erie Canal trail and the shops along South Main Street. The village's walkable downtown core includes restaurants, boutiques, and the Pittsford Village Library, making it accessible for families combining errands with student drop-off.
