Notion
Notion is a handcrafted and vintage goods shop at 50 State Street Building J — the kind of place where everything on the shelf was chosen by someone who actually cares what ends up there. Wood and pottery creations, jewelry, a well-curated card selection, and rotating vintage finds make it a reliable stop for gifts that don't look like gifts. Owned by Bonnie, who also runs Miguel Creative, Notion is small, focused, and genuinely interesting. The inventory changes regularly so there's always a reason to stop back in. One of those shops that gives the village its character.
Overview
Notion is a handcrafted and vintage goods shop located at 50 State Street, Building J, in the Village of Pittsford, NY. Opened in November 2020 by Bonnie Miguel — a graphic designer and creative director with more than 25 years of experience who also runs Miguel Creative — the shop was born out of a desire to support local makers who lost access to craft shows during the pandemic. Bonnie converted her existing office space into a retail storefront, and the shop has operated as a community-oriented gift destination since.
What They Offer
Notion stocks a rotating selection of handmade goods sourced from over 75 Rochester-area artists and makers, alongside curated vintage finds. Product categories include:
- Wood and pottery creations (including Lichtenberg woodburning pieces)
- Handmade jewelry and accessories
- An extensive greeting card selection
- Candles, including repurposed wine-bottle candles
- Printmaking and original art
- Youth and baby clothing, tie-dyes, and hats
Inventory changes weekly as new makers are added and seasonal items rotate in. Nearly everything in the shop is either handmade in the Rochester area or sourced as vintage.
Known For
Notion is known for its focus on Monroe County artisans, functioning as a retail outlet where dozens of local creators can sell their work year-round. The shop operates with a deliberate small-format approach — a tightly edited selection rather than volume — which keeps the inventory fresh and distinct from larger gift retailers. The annual Northfield Common Creators Fest, hosted in the adjacent parking area, extends that maker-community mission beyond the shop walls.
Location & Neighborhood
The shop sits within Northfield Common, a cluster of rustic wooden buildings at the end of Schoen Place along the Erie Canal towpath in Pittsford. The canal-side setting offers foot traffic from walkers and cyclists using the towpath, and the surrounding complex includes additional independent shops and restaurants. Parking is available in the Northfield Common lot. Notion is open Monday through Saturday, making it accessible for both weekday browsing and weekend gift runs in the heart of the village.
