Bahama Mama Reunites for 50th Anniversary Show at Photo City Music Hall — September 19

Pittsford neighbors — this one is for anyone who spent the 1970s hunting reggae records at the West Indian shops downtown and never quite got it out of their bloodstream. Bahama Mama, the Victor-formed band whose early embrace of Bob Marley and the Wailers made them pioneers of American reggae, is reuniting for a 50th anniversary show at Photo City Music Hall. Frontman Ron Stackman says the band sees real parallels between the political messages of their 1970s catalog and today's world — which is partly what convinced guitarist and principal songwriter Jim Kraut, the engine of the band, to finally say yes to a reunion. Longtime Abilene Bar & Lounge owner Danny Deutsch, a lifelong fan, is a key supporter of the event. "They are hometown guys that have a roots-reggae sound like no other," Deutsch says.
