Freedom Caverns Historic Marker Dedication — Juneteenth at 28 Monroe Ave
Friday, June 19, 2026 at 12:00 PM
28 Monroe Avenue, Pittsford, NY
Cost: Free
What's Happening
This Friday, the community gathers at 28 Monroe Avenue to dedicate a new historic marker at the Sylvanus Lothrop House — built in 1826, the same era Lothrop helped bring the Erie Canal through Pittsford. The limestone caverns beneath the property are believed to have served as stops on the Underground Railroad, sheltering freedom seekers traveling north. The ceremony is intentionally held on Juneteenth, placing two centuries of history on the same ground on the same day.
