Margot's Froggy 86th Birthday Celebration at A Frog House — August 9

Margot Fass turns 86 this August, and she is spending the afternoon the way she has spent most of the last decade — inviting the rest of us to care about frogs. A Frog House, the small 501(c)(3) she founded behind 65 State Street on the canal, opens its gardens and ponds for the afternoon. There will be cake. There will be frogs. There will be a fair number of people who came for one and stayed for the other.

What started as a painter's late-life fascination has become a working piece of village infrastructure: the vernal ponds at the Robert C. Corby Arboretum, the native plantings, the kids who now know what a bioindicator is. This is the birthday party of someone who decided her celebration should double as an invitation.
