Pittsford School Bus 2026: What Families Need to Know Before the September 8 First Bell

The Short Version

  • StopFinder only works if you subscribe through the emailed link first — download the app before subscribing and it won't function at all.
  • The driver shortage figures on the district's transportation page (321 daily trips, 25 hires against near-equal retirements) come from a 2024-25 Superintendent's message, not a 2026 count.
  • Bus stop change requests must reach the Transportation Department by the last business day in September, one form per stop location.
  • No stop changes get considered during the first two to three weeks of school unless there's an urgent safety concern.
  • Cancellation emails come from a sender listed as "Transfinderdonotreply" — allowlist it or it lands in spam at 6:45 a.m.
  • Private and parochial bus service stops September 21, with October 9 and 12 next.

School starts Tuesday, September 8. If your child rides a Pittsford school bus in 2026, two items on the district's transportation page deserve attention this week: a notification app that fails silently when set up in the wrong order, and a bus stop request form with a hard September deadline.

Pittsford Central School District uses StopFinder to push bus cancellations and route changes to families. The setup order is not a suggestion. The district's transportation page instructs parents to subscribe through the emailed link first, then download the free app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

"Please note that if you download the app before subscribing, the app won't work."

— PCSD Transportation Department

The subscription invitation went out by email over the summer, with a separate link for each child. Families who never received one are asked to contact the Transportation Department at (585) 267-1480.

Cancellation alerts arrive two ways: through the app, and by email from a sender the district identifies as "Transfinderdonotreply." Add that address to your contacts before the 8th. A cancellation notice sitting in a spam folder at 6:45 a.m. is a notice you did not get.

The same page carries a section on driver shortages with hard numbers: 321 bus trips daily across elementary and secondary schools, 25 new drivers hired over two years against a near-equal number of retirements, and a warning that shortages worsen in winter and flu season.

Those figures come from a message from Superintendent Michael Pero filed under the district's 2024-25 school year. The transportation page was refreshed in August 2026; the shortage message inside it was not. Treat the numbers as the district's most recent published account, not a September 2026 headcount.

The guidance in that message still holds. Check email and StopFinder each morning before pickup. If a child is left at home, the district asks families to call 267-1480 and select option 1, since a later bus may go out once morning routes finish. The district also names carpooling — neighbors covering a run for neighbors — as a way to ease load on the system.

PCSD builds centralized group stops rather than door-to-door service, and it publishes the walking distances it routes around.

Stop changes run on a calendar. During the first two to three weeks of school the district will not consider them, absent an urgent safety concern, because drivers are still learning routes. After that, requests go through the School Bus Stop Review Request Form, one form per stop location, and the district requires that forms be received by the last business day in September or within 30 days of establishing residency.

The page is direct about who owns the walk. Getting a child to and from the stop safely is the parent's responsibility, and heavy traffic, missing sidewalks, unlit streets, and winter snowbanks do not by themselves make a stop unsafe.

Families are no longer required to call when a child will not need the bus for the morning, afternoon, or the full day. Drivers run their routes as scheduled, and the district reaches out directly when it needs to confirm an absence. The page does not date this change, so it may well predate this school year.

Private and parochial school transportation runs on its own calendar. The first blackout date is September 21 — Yom Kippur, a day PCSD is closed. October 9 and 12 come next.

The bus stop review form is due the last business day in September. Dispatchers are reachable at 585-267-1480, option 1.
