Canal Pathway Safety Reminder
Canal Pathway Safety Reminder
The following is the announcement as issued by the Office of Mayor Alysa S. Plummer, Village of Pittsford.
As warmer weather brings increased activity along the canal pathway, Village staff continues to monitor growing safety concerns along the canal corridor involving speeding bicycles, close calls with pedestrians, and conflicts in heavily traveled areas. We remind all cyclists and pedestrians to remain alert, courteous, and mindful of shared pathway safety. Cyclists must yield to pedestrians, reduce speed in congested areas and dismount in any crowded area to allow safe passage. It is nesting and hatching season. Please use extra caution along the Canal Path where wildlife, including families of geese and other waterfowl, may be present. Sadly, we had two fatalities of baby geese this week as they were hit by a speeding cyclist.
