Brush at the curb is one of those quiet village rhythms — you drag it out, and by the end of the week it's gone. Starting the week of August 10, that rhythm changes: DPW brush pick-up moves to every other week, which gives the crew room to take on the other projects waiting around the village. The following is the announcement as issued by the Office of Mayor Alysa S. Plummer, Village of Pittsford.
The DPW brush pick up schedule will be moving to every other week. We have a very busy season, and this revised schedule will enable the crew to complete numerous other projects throughout the village with greater efficiency. The next pick-up will be the week of August 10, 2026 and every other week thereafter.

Brush pickup usually is Brush on Monday, and grass clippings on Tuesday… This leaves 3 days to work on other projects… never had issues in the years past with this schedule. What is the reason for the change?

If there is insufficient time allocated to accomplish basic tasks, why has the Village adopted summer hours giving staff Friday afternoons off. Perhaps more planning and transparency is required. As residents we are paying more taxes for reduced services.

I hate rumors as they can be unfounded and hurtful … that being said I just heard that Sutherland will not be paved this year? This can’t be true as I was told by a high ranking Village Official that it would be done “this Summer.” I saw a Villager Crew doing prep work but …. Can Village Chat comment. I use Sutherland a lot going to YMCA and to avoid the Four Corners. Thank you …

Good question, and you're both right ? which is why it feels like a contradiction. As I understand it - Sutherland is a two-phase project. The Board hired Villager Construction on Feb 10 and bonded $950,000 for it in March, so the crew you saw is the real thing. Phase I ? utility work, culvert pipe and catch basin replacement ? started in late July and runs about four weeks. But at the June 9 Board meeting, DPW Superintendent Cernis said Sutherland will get temporary pavement restoration before school starts, with curbing, sidewalks and final roadway reconstruction scheduled for 2027. So the road gets patched back this year; the real paving is next year. The Village also received a $700,000 grant through Senator Brouk's office for the ADA-compliant sidewalk portion. I’ve been to most of these meetings - it can be confusing. It's also in the June 9 minutes on the Village site if you want to read it directly. So if our tax assessment for village resident was partially based on a pick-up being performed weekly, then a bi-weekly pickup should be reflected in a tax deduction. Displacing a service to facilitate "other work" doesn't sit well with me. It's as though we had a contract and that contract is no longer valid. "not good!"

Totally unacceptable brush and other stuff will be out 2 weeks now making the village look like crap. They are doing no roadworks just what are they doing? Picking weeds cuz beds were a total mess for awhile. Brush leaves and snow removal are the major jobs next thing you know they will remove snow every other storm
