Angus Irish Pub Opens at 5 State Street

Pittsford Village has a new Irish pub. On Thursday morning I walked past 5 State Street on my way into Village Bakery Café for a breakfast meeting and found the sign over the door: Angus Irish Pub, gold letters under green lights. Two patio heaters stood on the sidewalk out front. A green-and-gold balloon arch still hung beside the front window.

A poster on the door gave the rest. Angus Irish Pub held its soft opening on Wednesday, September 30, at 5 p.m., and it bills itself as the home of the $5 Guinness pint. A $5 pint is an easy reason for a first visit, and the price is set for exactly that.

The sign on the door. A $5 Guinness pint is an opening offer I intend to test.

I wasn't there, and I haven't been inside yet. The Village's public record covers most of how this storefront got its lights back on.

From Rachel's to an Irish Pub

5 State Street is the storefront attached to Village Bakery, the space many of us still call Rachel's. The space sat empty in the years before this opening.

A special use permit application was filed for an Irish-themed restaurant and pub at the address. The application to the Village Board is part of the public record.

I haven't found a website, posted menu or online review for Angus Irish Pub yet. The application to the Village included a sample menu, though whether the kitchen is serving that menu during the soft opening is something only the people who have eaten there can say.

I'll stop in and report back. If you were at the soft opening or have been since, leave a comment below this article with what you ordered, who was behind the bar, and how the $5 Guinness pour came out.
