What Is Pittsford's Community Climate Action Plan?

The Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP) is a long-range sustainability roadmap developed in partnership with the Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council. The regional partnership means Pittsford's priorities will connect to county-level and state-level sustainability frameworks — not just stand as a standalone town document.

The CCAP covers more ground than the town's earlier sustainability work. The town already has a Municipal Operations Climate Action Plan, which addresses what the government does with its own buildings, vehicles, and energy use. The CCAP extends that scope: it applies to residents, businesses, nonprofits, and organizations throughout the town.

Pittsford also holds a Clean Energy Community designation and a Climate Smart Community certification. The CCAP builds on both, along with the town's Greenprint sustainability plan. Once complete, it will be a prioritized action list shaped by what the community says matters most.

What the Survey Asks: Four Priority Areas

The survey asks respondents to rank potential actions across four areas: transportation, buildings, renewable energy, and materials management.

Those four categories cover the primary places where a community produces greenhouse gas emissions and uses energy. Transportation includes options for getting around with fewer emissions — walking and cycling infrastructure, electric vehicles, transit access. Buildings covers energy efficiency in homes and commercial spaces. Renewable energy addresses clean power options for residents and the community. Materials management covers composting, recycling, and waste reduction.

An open text field at the end invites respondents to flag anything those four categories miss. The planning team uses survey responses to determine what the final plan prioritizes and in what order.

Pittsford's Clean Energy Community designation and Climate Smart Community certification sit at the foundation of this planning process, representing sustainability commitments the town has already made.

The Greenprint sustainability plan established the community baseline. The Municipal Operations Climate Action Plan addressed what town government does directly — its buildings, fleet, and energy purchases. The CCAP is the next document in that sequence, extending those commitments to every household and business in Pittsford.

The survey is how the planning team learns which priorities the community wants carried into the final plan.
