NYS DEC Canal Path Cleanup — Starting June 8

On Monday, June 8th, the State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will be cleaning up some ground contamination near the [canal path](/the-erie-canal-towpath-as-a-way-of-life-in-pittsford-village) by Del Monte. A section of the canal path will be closed from Monroe Avenue to North Main Street. This work should take a week; however, if more contamination is found during excavation, the timeline may be extended. Below is a map showing a detour for pedestrians and cyclists.

2026 Tax Bills and $1.28 Refuse District Credit

Property tax bills are now in the mail and online, due by July 1, 2026, without penalty. The Village identified a calculation error affecting the refuse district charge in the 2026 tax bill you recently received. The refuse district portion of your bill was over-stated by $1.28. Residents are asked to pay their 2026 tax bill as issued. The Village will automatically apply a refuse district credit of $1.28 to next year's tax bill. The Village regrets this error and appreciates your understanding and patience as we work to resolve the matter in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible. If you have any questions, please contact [Village Hall](/village-of-pittsford-april-2026-bulletin) at (585) 586-4332.

Historic Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief Arriving June 22

Join us in welcoming the return of the historic Seneca Chief as part of the Buffalo Maritime Center's "Back to Buffalo" Erie Canal tour! The vessel should arrive at Schoen Place on Monday, June 22, at approximately 11:00 AM, making a brief stop before continuing to Buffalo. Residents and visitors will have an opportunity to meet the crew and tour the boat dockside during its two-hour layover in the village. The Seneca Chief is a hand-built replica of the packet boat inspired by the vessel that DeWitt Clinton traveled on celebrating the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. Its return voyage highlights the canal's enduring role in New York State's history and heritage. For more information about the "Back to Buffalo" tour and the Buffalo Maritime Center, visit the Buffalo Maritime Center website.
